FCP Suite 2, iLife and iWork

August 21, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Dance for the Camera ended successfully with a great screening of interesting, provocative and dynamic works produced by the DFTC participants. You could look at some photos from Laurie Agard and wait for more on our site soon.

With DFTC over for this year I’ve had the time to do some upgrading. Final Cut Suite 2 is now on our edit station. As well, I’ve had the time to upgrade to iLife ‘08 and iWork ‘08. Keynote, in iWork, has some intersesting multimedia options that might well be useful in your website or in making works for the web. As well, pages has basic screenplay and storyboarding templates.

Good shooting and editing

FX1 for sale and week 2 of DFTC

August 6, 2007 · Leave a Comment

MediaNet member Byron MacIntyre has a Sony FX1, just like the one MediaNet has, for sale. $2500. Good condition.  Leave me your contact by posting a reply and I will forward your info to him (I won’t publish your email address or phone numbers).

Dance for the Camera is in Week 2 and about to start into its heavy editing phase. Scott and I are putting in enough hours to keep the place open from 7 am to 10 pm for the filmmakers to get their projects ready for screening in part 2 of the Reel Dance Film Festival next Saturday. Special thanks to Soho Computers for renting us additional editing stations at a decent price.

Right after the DFTC program I will be hard at work creating a workshop schedule for the fall. Stay tuned on our workshop page and here for new developments. And please add your comments and requests for workshops.

good shooting

day 3 of DFTC and looking forward

August 1, 2007 · Leave a Comment

It’s day 3 of Dance for the Camera and as most MN members know, pretty much all of our resources are devoted to this 2 week intensive workshop. DFTC Director Grace Salez and assistant Passia Pandora are in full DFTC mode while Dance film Maven Ellen Bromberg is once again leading filmmakers, dancers and choreographers into the province of movement based independent film production. Don’t miss the 2 nights of the Victoria Reel Dance festival. Experimental Film and Dance Film have a lot of crossover points and the films are appealing on both a Dance and a Film level.

That being said, when we get back into the swing of things we will have a couple of new wrinkles here at MediaNet. Right after DFTC we will be upgrading our edit stations to the new Final Cut 6 suite. As well, we are purchasing a new still camera and upgrading our Adobe creative suite so members can enjoy the latest in photo manipulation either for their film/video/internet projects or for pure photo projects.

Coming soon will be a workshop schedule for the fall. The emphasis this fall will be on covering some of our basic needs including basic lighting, sound and camera workshops along with our continuing FCP labs to kickstart new members into the editing world. Of special interest to some of you will be a fundamentals of music composition workshop with member Ryan Bresser as well as a using Garage Band workshop. So send me your suggestions for fall and winter workshops and we’ll see what we can work out.

And congrats to member and MediaNet support maven Scott Amos who will be shooting his Bravo supported video right after DFTC and to Member and Dance for the Camera participant Alejandro Valbuena on receiving a BC Arts Grant

Good Shooting
