EcoDoc, CAC awards, NFB digital strategy

1) EcoDoc starts next Saturday 12 Sept. There are workshops and more for the participants and some workshops and talks for you all. Get the details at   http://www.media-net.bc.ca/otherprograms/ecodocdetails.html There are still about 4 spaces left – email me if want to be part of the ecodoc solution.  The program kicks off next Saturday with a KeyNote address by MediaNet’s own Rick Searle titled activism, social networking and people power
Environmentalist, Teacher, Filmmaker, Broadcaster and founder of EKOS Communications, Rick Searle will talk about the possibilites of change using media and social networking facilities (open to the general public) www.ekoscommunications.com 7 PM at the Community Art Galler of Greater Victoria – G6 1001 Douglas (Sussex Court at Fort and Douglas Streets)   The final screening will be at the Victoria Event Centre on Wed Oct 7 and everybody is welcome

2) MediaNet members sweep CAC practicing artist awards
Friday night at the CAC gallery saw an awards ceremony that featured MediaNet members scooping up $2000 in awards.  The competition was tough, especially in the Experimental Expression category. Scott Amos and Rick Raxlen dominated that category and MediaNet member Kyath Battie took home the top award of $400 in the Personal Experession Category. For those of you that missed your chance to see the award winning films a compilation DVD will be available for borrowing at the CAC office later this week. The award winners were:

Experimental Expression

3) Rick Raxlen – Frottage/domage $200
4)  significant artistic merit   Scott Amos – Grass  $50

INVITATION TO VICTORIA FILM AND DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCERS
ViFPA is pleased to be presenting an information session on the “Digital Strategy at the NFB” with Tracey Friesen, Executive Producer of the NFB’s Pacific and Yukon Centre. The session will take place on Thursday, September 10th from 3 – 5 pm in the Orientation Room at ‘A’ Victoria, 1420 Broad Street.

4) Tech Support only during evenings Sept 12 to Oct 4th.
I will be working evenings 5 to 9ish during EcoDoc. The EcoDoc participants will have priority on my time but if you need tech help when the EcoDoc program is running call me after 5 at MediaNet. Regular office hours for booking and pickups are still in effect.  Also, please take note that EcoDoc participants have priority in Camera and edit bookings for the 3 weeks of EcoDoc. At this point, the FX1 and the Z1U are available for member advance booking but may be booked by EcoDoc participants during the program if members have not made advanced bookings.

5) Booking rules you may have forgotten!!
* you may book by phone ONLY if you talk to Kirk, Cat or Peter.  NO PHONE MESSAGES!
* Pick up time is 9:30 to 10 AM unless other arrangements are made IN ADVANCE.  If you have not picked up or made other arrangements by 10 am your equipment may be booked out to other members.
* return time is 9 to 9:30 am – other arrangements may be made in advance but if you do not have the equipment back by 9:30 you may have to pay another day’s rental
(these are all rules that are on the member’s orientation quiz – and I have the documentation to show that you all know about them – so consider this a gentle reminder)
