EcoDoc is a 3 week program for filmmakers and environmentalists to realize and communicate their vision to the Victoria public, to BC and to the world. MediaNet, in partnership with The Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria is presenting a week of seminars and workshops for the EcoDoc participants and to the community.

The registration fee for the program is $150 (or $125 for MediaNet or Cinevic members) and guarantees participants a space in all the workshops as well as access to MediaNet equipment and editing facilities (rental costs included in the registration fee). As well, participants will receive ongoing technical and production mentoring. There are a limited number of spaces available in this program.

7 PM – Rick Searle – keynote address – Saving the Real World Wide Web with Social Media
The times are unprecedented. Human activities now threaten to completely overwhelm the systems that maintain life on the planet – the real World Wide Web. Simultaneously, a new social ecosystem is emerging, connecting people across time and space as never before. 7 PM viewing internet documentaries:
an evening of viewing documentaries available on the internet from Vimeo to YouTube with discussion and shared opinions
Wed 16 Sept – 7 PM Dogwood – Will Horter (date to be confirmed) – open to the public
Docwood Initiative’s inspriational leader Will Horter speaks and inspires as he talks about the environmental issues facing us on the Island.

Friday 18 Sept – Tom Shandel – creating the documentary: a producers view (open to the public) From “The Corporation” (1999) to “America, Love It or Leave It” (1990), from the founding of medicare (“Bitter Medicine” 1983) to “Kerouac” (1997) Tom Shandel has been making documentaries that take the pulse of the times. Sunday 20 sept 2 pm Richard boyce – Activist Video Workshop (EcoDoc participants only) Activist and filmmaker Richard Boyce shares his experiences using video not just for creating documentaries but as will in his work with Homeless Nation, in the courtroom, with politians and public accountability and in changing public opinion
Sat 26 Sept (tentative date) Mandy Leith Editing mentor sessions (EcoDoc participants only)- works in progress.Editor, activist and founder of Open Cinema, Mandy brings us years of editing and storytelling experience to help refine and focus your doc
Sunday 27 Sept 7 PM participants Crit night – works in progress - Participants will gather to look at and discuss each others work in progress with an eye to learning from and about each other’s work
During the 3 week period of EcoDoc all participants will have access to MediaNet’s production and editing facilites and technical support. Participants will be guided in working with Final Cut and Final Cut Express as well as support for audio and video aquisition.

Screening Wed 7 Oct 7 PM – Victoria Events Centre (Everybody welcome – admission by donation). Come see the work done by local Victorians about local issues in the friendly atmosphere of the Victoria Event Center, 1415 Broad St
